Roaming through one of Pitchfork's many new site additions I decided I should update this blog and staying on track with the theme of today's roaming it is only appropriate that I post a list. Here are some of my favorite album covers. Although I am not especially fond of some of these artists I due love these covers:


Beck has a pretty enough face to pull this off and it sums up what the record is in my opinion. Almost makes me forget about the 90's. 

 I do realize Belle and Sebastian have practically the same cover art on all their albums but honestly this grouping of women looking cool is my favorite.


Apparently the singer of this band recently quit via the groups twitter. Similar to how how Frank Black of the Pixies quit via fax.

I've never heard M83's tunes but I'm not a fan of electro so I assume I'm not missing out. Regardless, this is my favorite cover out of all 8.

I love all Modest Mouse cover art but if I had never heard of Isaac Brock and saw this record in the store I would have bought it just to make my record collection look cooler. 

All Spoon covers are great as well. Not the biggest fan but believe staring at this cover while listening makes the record better. 

Like an artsy Instagram photo and should have been a Feist cover but I like it. 

Not only one of my favorite records of all time but this is another one I would have bought based on the cover alone.

I was having dinner a few nights ago in the Mission and met a friend of my girlfriend’s friend who worked for Levi Jeans and loved Pabst. Yes, no big surprise here as this is a perfect example of the modern day road-biking thriftstore-er but what I took away from the conversation was a revelation. This guy actually had a reason as to why he specifically likes Pabst! A fashion- savvy modernists explaining why he likes Pabst? Call Neal Stewart (former divisional marketing manager at Pabst)!

Before 2002 Pabst was actually in the process of shutting down its breweries when suddenly without expectation sales began to rise. With everyone at a loss as to how Pabst was making such an amazing comeback, sales were up 134% in Chicago, marketers started doing what they do best in these situations; they started guessing.

It was assumed that it was actually a lack of marketing that resulted in the increase, a sort-of underdog story where Pabst branded “alternative people” were buying the product because they detested marketing. So when this acquantence of my girlfriend's friend told me he loved Pabst because he enjoys the metallic taste of beer in a can, Pabst of which accompanies this taste the best, I was shocked.

Could this be the hidden reason why a younger demographic has flocked to Pabst? Simply put: No. This is his reason as it’s becoming apparent that Pabst is cool now. So as we all start to create our own reason for why we love Pabst in a future where Pabst drinkers are the assumed hip just know that this reason is taken.

2D Branding

I won't parade around as if I know what advertising is, I'm not that good of a salesman, but growing up as a child of parents with an ad firm I've subconsciously participated in enough commercial shoots and focus groups to at least start a blog about it.

So, first off: "DoYaThing"


I love the Gorillaz and I've shook it like an Instagram but I don't own a pair of Converse. As an American Hipster I should be beaten with Hi Tops until I buy said Hi Tops. I really should have bought a pair after the Best Coast/Vampire Weekend Converse collaboration but I was on more of a Beach House eighties triangle- pattern button-up kick that day.

This is a clever ad but it's not the ad itself that's clever (Yes, Jamie Hewlett is great so shut up Tank Girl fans). It's Converse's decision to not directly advertise this collaboration that gives them the street cred they've been targeting. By paying Pitchfork to break the news about this collaboration Converse doesn't look like the kid in high school who was trying too hard (Ex: Me). Shoes can bring artists together and with the right apparel they may just become inspired enough to write a song. $$$. 

I really do believe this is a great campaign regardless of how sarcastic I may sound. Converse's new position as THE shoe in which to express yourself is a healthy move forward in a sports world dominated by The Swoosh. Hey Ya.
